Xavier Gutierrez, CEO of the Arizona Coyotes and CEO of ImpactX Sports Group (L), and Pedro Guerrero, CEO of Guerrero Media. Gutierrez had previously been a managing director at private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group and knew Meruelo for about a decade before becoming the NHL's first-ever Latino CEO. It took a Latino owner to hire a Latino CEO, Gutierrez explained in an interview, because Hispanics are not well-represented in leadership positions in professional sports. Gutierrez, who is technically still CEO of the Arizona Coyotes even though the franchise is inactive, says he is the only non-owner Latino CEO. Gutierrez and Pedro Antonio Guerrero, the CEO of executive advancement company Guerrero Media, introduced Latinos in Sports at an event in Miami last week.

Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports Acquire Licensing RightsOct 24 (Reuters) - The National Hockey League (NHL) has reversed its ban on players supporting social causes on their equipment, including the use of rainbow-coloured Pride tape on their sticks. The NHL had instituted the ban via a league-wide memo sent to its 32 teams ahead of the 2023-24 regular season, drawing criticism from players, fans and a number of prominent organizations. "After consultation with the NHL Players' Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition, players will now have the option to voluntarily represent social causes with their stick tape throughout the season," the NHL said in a statement on Tuesday. The decision by the NHL comes three days after Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis Dermott became the first player to defy the ban with colourful tape wrapped around the shaft of his stick during his team's home opener. BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — It’s a frequent — and most often frantic — high-pitched yell when kids playing street hockey in North America know their game is about to be interrupted. Arizona's terrible NHL team is stuck using a college arena for its games as it awaits a public vote. This May, voters will decide the future of a $2.1 billion plan that includes the Coyotes' new arena. The NHL's Arizona Coyotes are for the moment stuck in an arena that is three times smaller than any other in the league. The professional team might need the facility for a few more years, but they can't even emblazon their own logo on center ice. The city also paid $50 million to the NHL to keep the team in the city while the franchise navigated bankruptcy.
Ovechkin's power-play goal at 8:55 of the second period came in his 1,287th game with Washington, snapping a tie with Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe. Ritchie's first goal of the game sailed just under the crossbar and over the goal line to forge a tie at 9:45. Zetterlund's second goal of the game also snapped New Jersey's eight-game losing streak to Calgary. Gourde finished with a goal and two assists, Tanev added an assist, and Vince Dunn also scored for the Kraken.
CNN —Vegas Golden Knights star Phil Kessel has broken the National Hockey League (NHL) ‘ironman’ record after he played his 990th consecutive game on Tuesday. Kessel, 35, started his impressive streak on November 3, 2009, when he made his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs. It’s neat,” an understated Kessel told reporters when he initially tied the record on Monday. “I’ve been fortunate.”Kessel poses with the pucks from his 990th consecutive NHL game. Ten more and Kessel will become the first player to feature in 1000 consecutive games, but he’s certainly not getting carried away.
